TAKE A HIKE WITH THE LIBRARY “TRAIL SAFETY “
September 25 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Avid hikers and backpackers Lue and Mary Elder will teach a four-week class on hiking the Appalachian Trail at the Hiawassee Town Square gazebo during September. Mary, an employee of the Mountain Regional Library System, says the couple has been hiking together since 2002. In 2004, they traversed the AT from Georgia to Maine. They hiked the South Carolina Foothills Trail in 2011. In 2012, they trekked to Mount Everest Base Camp with the Wilderness Medical Society. Multiple trips out West allowed them to climb several “14’ers” in Colorado. Although they are slowing down now, they continue to take an interest in nature and the outdoors and plan to do some hiking this fall.
